A Tynemouth charity group has given the Fishermen’s Mission in North Shields a £2,880 boost. Floppsie Cullens Facebook group organiser John Spoors, left, is pictured at Cullercoats Crescent Club with retired fishermen Henry Howard, second from left, and Terry McDermott, right, handing over a cheque for that amount to mission area officer Peter Dade. The money was raised in memory of a late friend of theirs, Jimmy Cullen.
Jimmy, a former fisherman too, died last year after setting up the group in an unsuccessful effort to trace the owner of a toy rabbit he found by the side of a road in Tynemouth.
Though it drew a blank on that count, the group has gone on to raise thousands of pounds for worthy causes, as reported in the News Guardian, now including the Fishermen’s Mission.
“We are delighted and proud to be chosen and humbled at the amount raised,” said Mr Dade.
