FISHING: Not best use of the rules

editorial image

WH Jackson says that the common fisheries policy has ruined our local fishing industry (News Guardian, April 26), but our government has allocated most of our fishing quota to the largest companies and allows much of it to be sold to foreign fleets, which other countries don’t allow.

In this, and in other areas, the UK has not made good use of EU rules.

Other examples include trade, where Germany has far more trade with China than we do, and state assistance to industry, which happens more in France.
