FIVE people have been arrested by detectives investigating a knife attack last Friday.
The arrests follow a disturbance at a flat above a shop in Station Road in Wallsend at 5.32pm.
Officers called out to deal with the incident found a 26-year-old man suffering from stab wounds to a shoulder and an arm.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, but his condition is not thought to be serious.
Five other people at the address – four men aged 45, 32, 24 and 18 and a woman aged 34 – were arrested in connection with the incident and have been helping police with their inquiries. The stabbing victim has also been quizzed by officers.
Detective Inspector John Gardner said: “At this stage, it’s believed the people involved are all known to each other and that it wasn’t a random incident.
“An investigation is under way to find out exactly what has happened, where and when, and this is ongoing.
“I’d urge anyone with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“Additional patrols are being carried out in the surrounding area to reassure local residents and address any concerns they may have.”
