Food banks are not dealing with cause

Further to the food bank debate. I would like to add this, if I may – the government loves food banks.

Here’s why: They perform the task of being a powerful visible deterrent against strikes and asking for better wages or conditions.

They are a form of humiliation that the government love to inflict on the working class. To have to beg for food is to debase someone’s status to that of an animal.

They move responsibility away from the government and on to charities for social welfare funding.

I suspect my letter won’t be published in full as it’s quite political, however, the best solution to poverty is a political one.

Things like food banks treat the symptoms and not the cause.
