Budding footballers from across North Tyneside are enjoying a new kit thanks to sponsorship from an Army Reserve unit.
The Fifth Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, which has centres across the north east, sponsored the new strip for Wallsend Boys Club’s under 13s team.
Sgt Major Ronnie Collins, training warrant officer for the Fifth Fusiliers, who lives in Wallsend, previously organised a football training session with the boys club, and decided to sponsor a new kit for the youngsters.
“Over the last five years I have run a regimental football tour which incorporated school visits with the help of the Drums,” he said.
“I have transferred some of my core values to these young players to give them a different prospective on life, using life skills to include discipline, respect and team work.
“I believe that Wallsend Boys Club encourage this in every age group from under eight to under 40.”
