Fun day and activities to help raise charity funds

STUDENTS supporting the battle against cancer are holding a fundraising open day this weekend.

Pupils at TyneMet College chose the Teenage Cancer Trust as their charity of the year, and all money raised at Saturday’s event will go towards helping youngsters in the region fight cancer.

Visitors will get the chance to win tickets to see either Alexandra Burke or Scouting for Girls at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival in the summer, as well as prospective students being able to talk to college tutors about courses available.

Sam Haley, the college’s director of learner services, said: “We’re hoping the combination of a fun day and the chance to support the Teenage Cancer Trust will bring people out in force.

“There will be something for everyone from toddlers through to teenagers – and their parents.”

The event runs from 11am to 2pm at the college’s Coast Road campus, Battle Hill Drive.
