Hundreds of pounds has been raised for a hospital unit thanks to a special fun day.

Despite the rain and wind, hundreds of people attended the event at the Harvester pub in North Shields.

The pub, which recently underwent a major refurbishment by the company, was raising money for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

Film stars – including Bumblebee from Transformers and Isla from Frozen – helped bring a touch of fame and glamour to the event.

More than £500 was raised on the day with other attractions including tea cup rides, cake stand, magician, colouring competition, face painting and more.

Staff from Harvester also donated a range of prizes for the tombola.

Deputy manager Callum MacPherson said: “Fun was had by all the customers and their kids that got involved and the staff had an absolute hoot.

“We chose this charity for the direct involvement with the staff having loved one’s being looked after very well by Freeman Hospital’s heart unit doctors and nurses.

“We believe they do an extremely good job and want them to continue doing all the great things they do at the hospital.”
