Cyclists are being offered the chance to saddle up and learn about local history and culture on a cycle ride.

The Fort to Fort bike ride takes place on Saturday, July 27, from 9.30am to 4.30pm and will see cyclists, aged over 16, ride from Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend to Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields, and back again – via the Shields Ferry.

The 20-mile route will provide an insight into the history of two of the most important forts in the Western Frontier of the Roman Empire.

Special free entry and guided tours at both venues will be provided, with lunch at Souter Lighthouse.
