A scout assistant leader was given a Royal appointment to collect his golden award.
Christopher Atkinson, assistant scout leader with the 4th Tynemouth Scout Group, visited St James’ Palace to receive his Gold Duke of Edinburgh.
As part of the challenges, Christopher had to hike for four days and three nights, which took place in the North Pennines.
He said: “The expedition was tough and challenging but well worth it. I was able to complete it with a good friend who I went through the whole process with.”
Christopher learnt to drive for his skill, ran for his physical section and volunteered for his local scout group.
He added: “The whole experience and stories from the whole process will stay with me forever and if I could do it all again I would.”
