Group is cheering at their routine success

A title-winning cheerleading group with an edge is looking to attract more members to help with routines.

FallenAngels meets twice a week at Heaton Community Centre but attracts interest from borough residents.

Despite only having 20 members who can perform at events they have managed to win titles with their performances to rock music.

Fundraising organiser Lesley Jackson, from Blyth, said: “People think cheerleaders have to be size 0, blonde and tall but that’s not the case.

“We teach people to do stunts, tumbles and other stuff.

“We have members as young as eight through to their 30s.

“Some cheerleading groups can have 50 members per display but we only have 15 in the senior squad and five in the junior squad so we do well.”
