A project is helping dementia sufferers to enjoy the area’s history.

Age UK North Tyneside and Segedunum Museum, in Wallsend, have joined forces to help people look back at their own history and that of the area.

The Dementia Care team at Age UK North Tyneside has organised an eight-week Time Travellers group at the Segedunum Roman Fort and Baths site.

The archive team from Tyne and Wear Museums will work alongside the Time Travellers, providing objects and photographs from their vaults to capture memories and knowledge about the rich story of life in North Tyneside through the years.

Sessions will take place on a Tuesday afternoon, starting on September 29.

For more information or to book a place contact Age UK North Tyneside on 0191 280 8484.

Time travellers will have the opportunity to share their own memorabilia and recollections with the group, where these valuable memories may be shared with museum visitors in the future.

Jane Lamont, dementia services manager at Age UK North Tyneside, said: “The people of North Tyneside have a rich history and have seen so much change in both industry and culture.

“Their memories should be captured and help to inform the future. I hope this exciting project will give us the chance to do that.”
