Gunner David in first salute

A Wallsend student has taken part in a Royal Salute to wish the Queen a happy birthday.

The Geordie Gunners from 101 Regiment Royal Artillery fired the salute over the River Ouse from Museum Gardens in York at the weekend.

And it was a completely new experience for TyneMet College student David Scott, 19, from Blyth, who joined the Regiment’s gun crews in firing the Royal Salute.

The uniformed services student said: “The Royal Salute has been an amazing experience and one that will stick in my memory.

“I was the Number 5 in the gun crew passing the shells to be loaded.

“This is a complete change from working with the Multiple Launch Rocket System which our Regiment fired only recently.

“As a new signaller I was learning how to send fire missions and taking radio messages. I really enjoyed it.”
