Xercise4Less will contend for the Health Club of the Year award at the prestigious ukactive Flame awards.

It will go head-to-head with six other national gyms at the awards, taking place on Wednesday, June 28.

The ukactive Flame Awards are the largest celebration of innovation and excellence from across the sector, with the Health Club of the Year award among the most sought-after.

Xercise4Less was founded by ex-rugby player Jon Wright, when his initial attempt to start a health club stalled during the credit crunch, and now employs more than 700 people and has more than 325,000 members in its 47 clubs across the UK.

Membership at Xercise4Less North Shields starts at just £9.99 and the gym boasts more than 400 pieces of equipment, 200 free gym classes, a state-of-the-art boxing ring and a separate women-only gym.

Chris Vanderpijpen, general manager of Xercise4Less North Shields, said: “To be nominated by ukactive for the Flame Award for Health Club of the Year is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the hard work of all the staff at Xercise4Less North Shields.

“We are committed to encouraging people in the North Tyneside area to live healthier, more active lifestyles and to be recognised in this way for our work is a huge honour.”
