Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is holding elections for residents to become public governors of the trust and fill 20 vacancies – which include two in North Shields and two in Wallsend.

Members of the public have until 5pm on April 10, to submit their nomination.

People must be a member of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust before they can put themselves forward as a candidate – and can be done by completing an online application form at or by calling 0191 203 1296.

Alan Richardson, trust chair, said: “Our public governors are the voice of local people and play a hugely important role in our trust.”

“They forge links with the many local communities we serve and help us to shape our priorities and develop local services.

“We’d urge anyone with an interest in healthcare to get involved and give our foundation team a ring on 0191 2013 1296 to find out more about the role.”
