Help to celebrate anniversary

BOSSES at Britain’s biggest shopping centre are looking for people in the borough who share a special date.

To kickstart the 25th anniversary celebrations for the Metrocentre, officials are searching for people who celebrate a 25th birthday or anniversary this year.

A special ‘secret’ celebratory event is being held on Thursday, April 14, at noon in Town Square – the anniversary of the first phase of the complex opening in April 1986.

Metrocentre general manager Tim Lamb said: “We want to kick start our 25th anniversary celebrations with a bang and what a better way to do it than with other local people celebrating a 25th birthday or anniversary themselves this year?

“So we are asking people for whom 25 years means a party to them in 2011 to contact our centre management team.

“We’d love to invite them down to help us with the first of a series of events for our birthday celebrations.

“They will be treated like Metrocentre VIPs for the day and will be given an exclusive party bag and gift voucher as a thank you.”

Anyone celebrating a 25th birthday or anniversary this year you should email MetroCentre at or write to Memories, Metrocentre Marketing, Centre Management Offices, Metrocentre, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, NE11 9YG.

Metrocentre officially launched 25 years ago on October 14, so bosses have planned a series of events up to and including October and then a very special silver-themed Christmas.
