Help with tracing birth relatives

WITH increased focus on adoption and social networking recently, many adopted people may consider tracing birth relatives – and vice versa – using sites such as Facebook.

This is a relatively new phenomenon, but one here to stay because it enables people to trace family relatively easily, quickly and cheaply.

However, making contact with birth relatives can be complex and emotional.

It is important people have the opportunity to think about the issues and potential outcomes beforehand.

The British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) is hosting a live Twitter chat on Wednesday, January 25 (7pm to 8pm), to discuss the pros and cons of tracing birth relatives online – tag tweets with #adoptfosterchat to join in or follow @BAAFAdoption.
