History shows only three believed in a European union

IN principle, I agree with Ron Kirkby’s views on the EU (News Guardian, October 27).

Even at this late stage I wonder whether it would be possible to form a trade block operating in a similar fashion to the EU, but based on the old Commonwealth countries.

It is a sobering thought that only three people in history believed in European union.

The first was Napoleon, the second was Hitler and the third, Ted Heath.

We fought the first two, why should the third be correct?
