Home tie for holders in Vase competition

THE injury time winner in the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday has earned Whitley Bay FC a home draw in the last 16 of the competition.

The Seahorses will welcome Dunstable Town FC to Hillheads on Saturday, February 12, as they attempt to retain the trophy for the third consecutive year.

A Paul Chow injury time winner led Whitley Bay to victory at Herne Bay on Saturday, while Dunstable ran out 2-0 winners against Willand Rovers in their fourth round tie.

The Luton-based club currently sit in 12th position of the Molten Spartan South Midlands Football League.

Bay boss Ian Chandler said: “I’m delighted to be at home after the epic journey to Herne Bay.

“On paper, which is always a dangerous thing to do, Dunstable looks like a good draw for us, however, you don’t get any easy games in the Vase, and total respect will be given to them.

“We’ll have them watched at least a couple of times, as we do with all opponents in the Vase.”
