The bravery of Army Reserve soldiers from south east Northumberland was celebrated during a medals parade on Saturday.
The soldiers, from the Fifth Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, received their medals for completing tours of duty, at Alnwick Castle.
The medals were presented to soldiers including Sgt Scott Alexander, LCpl Dean Thompson, Fusilier Keith Johnson, from North Shields, LCpl David Gullane from Wallsend, and Fusilier Jack Bradley from Monkseaton, by the batallion’s honorary leader, Colonel James Percy.
Lord Percy said: “The Fusiliers and Rifleman who deploy to Afghanistan and every day risk stepping on an IED or getting shot or worse captured, deserve our utmost gratitude, words cannot describe how brave they have been or what they have done for us and our country.
“We owe them our thanks.”
