I have always been totally in favour of a national budget chain hotel being built on the ‘Dome’ site or surrounds, and I specifically suggested this to North Tyneside Council staff at one of the original open access sessions at St Paul’s Church Hall what seems like a century ago, but having seen the design of the building now approved by the council’s planning committee, it is a waste of an opportunity to have some sort of landmark building that complements the surrounding area.
The planning department and councillors who have approved this design should be utterly ashamed of the legacy they are going to leave future generations of Whitley Bay residents.
Were any of the planning committee councillors who approved this even from Whitley Bay? And if they were, shame on them.
