A major reason why St Mary’s Lighthouse is so delightfully iconic is that it can be seen standing proudly from almost any direction as you approach it.
Should I be fearing as I am just now that the St Mary’s headland café and visitor centre proposed there would obliterate this quality?
That would be visually disastrous.
If a café and visitor centre is felt to be necessary thereabouts, it would be better located at the first car park on the headland road towards the lighthouse.
That might require a relocation of the bird observation area, but would be an infinitely better alternative.
