Emergency services tackled an incident in Killingworth in which a man climbed an electricity pylon last night.

At 8.43pm, officers received a report that a man had climbed an electricity pylon in a field near to Simonside Way and was attempting to touch the live wires. Northern Powergrid was contacted and electricity to the pylon has been switched off.

At 10.15pm, police were still at the scene and were working with the fire service, ambulance crews and NEDL to get the man down safely from the pylon. A small cordon has been put in place in the area while officers deal with the incident.

Just after midnight, it was reported that the man was down safely and has been taken to hospital to be checked over.

All of the power in the North Tyneside area was restored and police thanked the fire service, ambulance service and NEDL for their help this evening. They also thanked the public and the local community for the support, patience and assistance they showed officers while dealing with this very difficult incident.
