A new interactive library has officially opened at a borough school.
Pupils at Woodlawn School in Whitley Bay, are celebrating now their new library has been officially opened to an audience of parents, carers, school council pupils and special visitors.
Local children’s author Fiona Veitch-Smith made a presentation of her books to the school library and stayed to enjoy storytelling and question and answer sessions with groups of pupils throughout the morning.
And other special guests included the Gruffalo, who visited all of the pupils in school and joined in the fun and games, before parents took part in a reading workshop to complete the day’s activities.
Elected mayor of North Tyneside Norma Redfearn, officiated by cutting the ribbon and formally announced the library open on Friday. “I wish the pupils at Woodlawn School a lifelong love of reading, and I encourage the author in them all to tell their own stories,” she said.
