A North Shields student has his dream career in his sights after gaining a rare scholarship.
Jacob Shotton, of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, has been offered an Army Officer scholarship that will see him train at Sandhurst, as well as complete a degree at the university of his choice.
The youngster earned his place after a seven-month application process that tested both his academic and physical abilities.
He said: “I’m delighted to have been offered a place to train as an army officer. From a young age I’ve always known what I wanted to do.
“I joined the North Shields cadets at 13. It’s such a great way to meet friends in a fun yet challenging environment whilst gaining military experience. It’s helped me to get a headstart by reaffirming by career aspirations.”
Jacob, in his final A-level year, also thanked school tutors for their support.
