Plans to open a trampoline park in North Shields in 2016.

Plans have been approved to build a trampoline hall on a car park to the east of Royal Quays Outlet Centre.

Members of North Tyneside Council’s planning committee unanimously approved the application by North Shields Investment Properties Ltd at their meeting on Tuesday.

The committee heard that the hall will feature 70 trampolines while ‘the proposal will continue and strengthen the existing leisure facilities found in this area’.

Coun Muriel Green said: “This is a welcome addition not just to this area but the whole borough.

“Trampolining is one of those activities which is in flavour at the minute.

“This is an opportunity to provide much needed facilities for this area and the whole of North Tyneside.”

The council did receive one letter of objection from the Whitbread Group, which owns and operates the nearby Premier Inn, which was concerned the site was on part of the car park used by its staff and guests.

It will be the second trampolining centre in Royal Quays.

At the start of the year, Oxygen Freejumping announced a partnership with five-a-side football operator Lucozade Powerleague to open a £1.5m trampoline park later this year.

They plan to create a trampoline park playground with more than 150 trampolines, dodgeball courts, airbags, and Ninja Warrior courses.

Visitors will also be able to learn Freerunning in Oxygen Freejumping’s bespoke Freerunning courses designed by the founder of Freerunning and Parkour pioneer Sebastien Foucan.

David Stalker, CEO of Oxygen Freejumping, said: “We are delighted to be coming to North Shields, and we’re looking forward to helping locals discover the fun of Freejumping.

“Freejumping is easy to do but impossible to master and fun no matter how old you or whether it’s your first jump or you are a high flyer.

“We have the highest standards of quality and service, and guarantee that everyone leaves with a smile on their face.”
