A song written in memory of two Newcastle United fans has been shortlisted for a top music award in America.
United We Stand, by Wallsend singer/songwriter Junior Turner, was recorded last year in memory of Liam Sweeney and John Alder.
The pair tragically lost their lives onboard flight MH17 on July 17, 2014, while travelling to see Newcastle United play in a pre-season tournament in New Zealand.
Junior performed the song at an evening with Alan Shearer for Wallsend Boys Club last September.
And now the Indie music channel awards 2016 in the USA have nominated it in the Best Live Performance category, up against two other performances.
The awards are being held on Sunday, April 24, at the Clive Davis Theatre in the legendary Grammy Museum, Los Angeles.
Junior has also been shortlisted in two other categories at the awards night – Best Pop Artist and Best Pop Song.
