Keep concrete off nature reserve

I agree with every word of Samuel Fisher’s well informed letter (News Guardian, January 1), which can also be read online at

I also look forward to a new Spanish City and regenerated Whitley Bay.

But I implore our council and its private construction partners to please keep their eyes off our nature reserves when looking for places to concrete over.

People go to St Mary’s headland, island and surrounding area to admire the lighthouse and enjoy the unspoiled environment already provided by nature.

Large, unsightly constructions like the one proposed will ruin any visitors’ experience to the area, not to mention the heartbreaking ecological damage it will cause.
