Key witness sought over fatal collision in Whitley Bay

A key witness is being sought over a fatal collision on Whitley Bay seafront.

William Dorey, 18, of Cromer Gardens, Whitley Bay, died after being struck by a Renault Megane travelling south on the A193 The Links at 9.42pm on Sunday.

Officers investigating the fatal collision are now appealing for the driver of a light coloured Mini, and it’s occupants, to come forward.

Police have been told the Mini stopped and assisted at the scene of the collision.

Sergeant Steve Minnikin, from Motor Patrols said: “We’ve been told this light coloured Mini car had been travelling from Seaton Sluice towards Whitley Bay when it stopped at the scene of the collision and gave assistance.

“The driver and the occupants of this car are crucial witnesses to this collision in which an 18-year-old man sadly died.

“I would urge them to contact police as soon as possible on 101 as we believe they can help us with this investigation.”

Officers are also continuing to appeal for any CCTV footage from homes or business premises, or from any motorists who may have dashcam style footage, of a Renault Megane and a Vauxhall Corsa car travelling from Blyth towards Whitley Bay around 9pm to the time of the collision at 9.42pm in the following areas:

North Tyneside – Shiremoor, North Shields, Monkseaton, Whitley Bay; and

Northumberland – Seaton Delaval, Seaton Sluice, Blyth – bottom end near the links.

Anyone with any CCTV footage or any information about this incident is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 quoting reference 1076 07/05/17.
