Knife-wielding robber steals cash from store

Staff were threatened by a knife-wielding man during a shop robbery.

The man entered the Co-op store, in Earsdon Road, Monkseaton, at 8.20pm on Thursday.

Armed with a knife he demanded cash and threatened staff.

He left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured but staff were shaken.

The person responsible for the robbery is described as a white man, very tall, with a shaved head carrying a knife.

He was wearing a black tracksuit with a grey jumper underneath, grey hat and a scarf.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police.
