Work to improve the Billy Mill junction on the Coast Road is nearing completion.

Work by North Tyneside Council, supported by Capita, are investing £7.2million to improve the A1058 Coast Road.

The latest phase of works at Billy Mill is nearing completion but some additional overnight road closures are needed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday, the eastbound Coast Road will be closed for completion of road lining works.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the westbound Coast Road will be closed for final repairs to a highway depression, plus ducting and installation of an illuminated sign on the central reservation.

A spokesman for North Tyneside Council said: “These works will be carried out through a closure of the affected carriageway each night between 8pm and 6am, and signed diversions will be in place on the A1058 Coast Road.

“Whilst this work will not be as disruptive as the resurfacing work carried out in February and March, there will still be some noise and light intrusion, and we apologise to local residents for the inconvenience this may cause.”

As a result of the work, bus operator Arriva has advised that during the overnight closures its services 53, 57A and 308 will be unable to serve Billy Mill Lane/Lynn Road and service 308 will be unable to serve the Coast Road between Norham Road and Billy Mill roundabout. Service 306 will also omit this section of Coast Road.

Services affected on each route will include any normally scheduled to pass through Billy Mill after 8pm each evening. Early morning services should not be affected.
