A business park employee is gearing up for the challenge of her life.
Laura McVittie has embarked on a marathon month of fundraising cycling events this month.
The commuter centre manager at Longbenton-based Quorum Business Park has lined up a number of charity events for herself and some of the employees of tenants on the park.
The first of the five cycling events began on June 1, with the final stretch taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend in August – with more than 300 miles being covered.
Laura said: “Cycling has always been a passion of mine and I’m certainly not one to shy away from a challenge.
“I am delighted that some of the staff from across the business park are joining in with the cycling events that will be helping to raise money and awareness for some really worthwhile causes, as well as becoming advocates for Quorum’s ethos of adopting a healthier lifestyle.”
The first challenge saw Laura and 30 employees from Tesco Bank complete a 55-mile route raising money for Crossroads for Care in Gateshead, with Laura cycling 35 miles the next day as part of the Sunderland BIG Bike Ride.
The next event will see Laura cycle 56 miles from London to Brighton on June 16, raising money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of her cousin who died of a heart attack in January, aged 30.
She will also take part in the annual Virgin Money Cyclone on June 29, riding a total of 63 miles, before rounding off the events over the August Bank Holiday by completing the coast-to-coast route with more Tesco Bank employees, raising money for the TOMA fund.
Laura added: “Fundraising is always high on my agenda. I’m thrilled that I’m already well on target to reach my £500 goal.”
