A frier has battered the opposition after walking away with a top industry award.

Leigh Foster of Pantrini’s in Whitley Bay, beat a host of talented rising young stars to walk away with the Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year Award at the 2014 National Fish & Chip Awards.

Leigh came through a series of intense judging rounds, including individual interviews, a day long skills based assessment and a mystery shop visit with additional judging session at Pantrini’s to beat off stiff competition from her rivals to be crowned the overall winner of the awards, which are now in their 26th year.

Michelin star TV chef and awards host Jean Christophe Novelli presented the award to Leigh in a ceremony at London’s Lancaster London hotel, where she had wowed the judges with their passion for the industry.

Leigh said: “I’m absolutely thrilled, and really surprised as the standard of the competition was so high.

“I have got to know the other competitors well over the last few months, and there has been a real comradery within the group.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Pantrini’s and taking on new challenges.”
