A life-saving charity is on a recruitment drive for children to join its new Badger unit.

St John Ambulance has set up the group for five to ten-year-olds at Trinity Methodist Church in Wallsend.

The youngsters will have the chance to learn first aid, social and citizenship skills, as well as take part in camping and outdoor activities, and earn badges leading to a Super Badger Award.

The charity already runs a Cadet unit, for ten to 17-year-olds, and an adult group at the church.

Unit manager Holly Hart said: “We are excited to extend our unit to welcome youngsters alongside our older Cadets and adult volunteers, with the aim of putting St John Ambulance at the heart of the local community.”

The Badgers meet on Thursdays, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Call 07738 319143 for more information.
