Making a racket, Cullercoats school celebrate tennis success – Video

A NORTH Tyneside school has been rewarded for its efforts in delivering tennis to its pupils.

Cullercoats Primary School has been crowned the Northumberland Lawn Tennis Association Tennis School of the Year.

Cullercoats Primary School were rewarded for the hard work the teachers put into schools tennis by collecting the Northumberland  Lawn Tennis Association 'Tennis School of the Year' at the Northumberland Awards recently held at Northumberland Tennis Club-Jesmond.

Cullercoats Primary School were rewarded for the hard work the teachers put into schools tennis by collecting the Northumberland Lawn Tennis Association 'Tennis School of the Year' at the Northumberland Awards recently held at Northumberland Tennis Club-Jesmond.

The school enjoy links with Cullercoats Tennis Club, which has seen the club’s junior membership soar over the last two years.

They also use the club’s courts for curriculum sessions and many pupils have went on to represent the club and attend county training sessions.

The school regularly holds after school tennis clubs and many teachers have attended teacher tennis training courses.

The award was presented to pupils Josh Harrison, Rachel Foreman and Jonathan Jordan by Wimbledon tennis commentator and former British number two Andrew Castle at the Northumberland Lawn Tennis Association in Jesmond.

Kev Youlden, director of sport of Cullercoats Primary, said: “We are really, really pleased.

“It’s a great link between the two tennis clubs at Cullercoats and Collingwood and it is showing how far we have moved on over the years.

“Andy Murray and the Olympic Games, the whole lot has inspired them in all aspects of sport.”
