A man has been found dead at a house in Whitley Bay.
Police were called to the property in Collingwood Road, Wellfield, at 11.18pm on Friday after being informed of a body inside.
The man, aged in his 60s, was found with a stab injury. A post mortem will be carried out today (Saturday).
Enquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances of the death.
Two people – a woman in her 70s and man in his 30s – are initially assisting with enquiries
Extra officers are in the area to carry out enquiries and speak with local residents as well as offer reassurance to those who are concerned.
Detective Chief Inspector John Bent said: “We’re carrying out enquiries in order to establish the circumstances leading up to this man’s death and currently have two people assisting with our enquiries.
“Extra officers will be in the area as we carry out enquiries, they are also there to offer reassurance to our communities and I would urge anyone who is concerned to please speak to them.”
