Man’s body found next to roadside

A man’s body was found by the roadside after police believe he was hit by a vehicle.

Police were called to Kings Road North, near the entrance to the Rising Sun Park in Wallsend, at 7.15am today (Sunday) after concerns were raised for a man lying next to the road.

Paramedics attended and confirmed the man had died.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the death.

Enquiries are in their initial stages, however, it is thought he may have been hit by a vehicle.

Chief Inspector Jerry Pearson said: “We’re carrying out enquiries in order to establish how the man came to be on the roadside and at the this time believe he may have been hit by a vehicle.

“Officers are in the area to carry out enquiries, and also offer reassurance to residents who may be concerned.

“If anyone has been Wallsend over the past few hours and saw anything out of the ordinary, or any vehicles that appeared to be damaged we would ask them to contact us.”
