Man stabbed in street outside shop

A man was stabbed outside of a Wallsend store.

Police were called to Tynemouth Road after a man had been assaulted outside the Premier Shop just after 3.45pm on Wednesday, May 13.

Paramedics had raised the alarm after being called to treat the 20-year-old victim.

The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where it was found he had sustained a stab wound, he is still receiving hospital treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and his condition is described as stable.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.

It is believed the two men are known to each other.

Extra officers are in the area speaking with residents and offering reassurance.
