A special birthday party was held for the oldest woman in the borough.

Marjorie Hubbard was joined by family and friends to mark her big day at Emmerson Court in Shiremoor – a sheltered accommodation home run by North Tyneside Council – where she has lived for 21 years.

She also had a visit from Mayor Norma Redfearn, who said: “I was delighted to be invited along to Marjorie’s special day. Marjorie is a very special and popular lady and I’m pleased she had a lovely birthday.”

Marjorie added: “I had a wonderful birthday and feel no different at 103 than I did at 100. I enjoyed my birthday party, particularly the singing, with my good friends and family.

“It was really nice to meet the mayor – I’ll be putting up the photo taken of us together next to my card from the Queen, which I received when I turned 100.”

“I love living at Emmerson Court and I must thank the staff who made my birthday extra special.”
