A dedicated community servant has taken on a new role to help people across the globe.
North Shields resident Mary Coyle MBE has been appointed chairman of the board of directors for ethical investment organisation Shared Interest.
Ms Coyle has previously served as regional director at leadership development scheme Common Purpose and spent 16 years at crime reduction charity Nacro.
She is a Deputy Lieutenant for Tyne and Wear, a member of Northumbrian Water Forum, and deputy lay chairman for North Tyneside NHS Clinical Commissioning Group.
In her new role she will lead Shared Interest in using investment from people in the UK to offer loans and credit to fair trade businesses around the world, including Peru, Ghana, Kenya and Costa Rica.
Its charity arm, the Shared Interest Foundation, works with small and medium-sized businesses in the developing world to create jobs and increase incomes.
Ms Coyle said: “Throughout my career I have been involved in work that has been about helping people reach their full potential, both personally and professionally.
“Shared Interest has that at its core too.”
