Masked armed robber steals cash from betting shop

Staff were left shaken after an armed robbery at a betting shop.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the raid which happened at Chisholm betting shop, on the Coast Road, Wallsend, at 9.15pm on Tuesday.

A man entered the premises armed with a knife and demanded cash.

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen and the offender made off in the direction of Newcastle.

Staff were shaken but otherwise uninjured.

The offender is described as a man of medium build wearing a blue tracksuit top with a hood and a black balaclava and had a knife.

Officers are carrying out an investigation and making house to house enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to contact them.
