Maximo Park confirmed as headline act for day two of North East music festival

North East indie pop favourites Maximo Park have been confirmed as the headlining act for day two of the outdoor live music spectacular on Times Square in Newcastle this July.

The band, famous for their high-octane live shows, and chart-topping hits will be joined on stage for the expected sell-out all day event on Sunday July 31 alongside 90s indie stalwarts LUSH, Public Service Broadcasting, Teleman, Fear of Men and Warm Digits.

Maximo Park, led by their charismatic Billingham-born frontman Paul Smith, have said they can't wait to return to their native North East and promise to deliver one of their most memorable performances yet in front of a home crowd.

"It's been a dream of ours to headline a big outdoor gig in the heart of Newcastle city centre and now, after celebrating our 10th-anniversary last year, we get to fulfil that ambition at the height of summer, on home turf,” said Paul Smith.

“I hope there will be a celebratory atmosphere on Times Square because there are some excellent bands on the bill, and we intend to put on a great show."

Emerging in 2005 with early hits that included Apply Some Pressure and Going Missing, the band sold 500,000 copies of debut album A Certain Trigger and carved out a live reputation that placed them as on of the UK's most exciting acts.

Signed to Warp Records, known as home to cutting-edge electronic acts such as Aphex Twin, Maximo Park was given national credibility and made guitar bands cool again alongside acts such as Bloc Party, The Futureheads, and Franz Ferdinand.

The band celebrated their 10th anniversary of debut album a Certain Trigger last year and have gone on to release a further four studio albums.

Support for the outdoor all dayer which kicks off at 2 pm in Newcastle this July comes in the form of LUSH.

20 years after Lush’s last studio recording and live show, one of the most greatly missed British bands of the Nineties have decided that 2016 is the time to put an end to the constant requests and have begun to hit the live circuit again.

Lush were part of a thrilling explosion of British guitar bands who took on the mainstream in the 90s and will complete the Times Square lineup which also includes London-based pseudonymous musical duo Public Service Broadcasting, indie pop band Teleman, Brighton outfit Fear of Men and Newcastle's acclaimed electronic collective Warm Digits.
