Men's first team suffer narrow defeat at Timperley
Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Men's first team failed to build on the previous week's win as they suffered a narrow defeat against Timperley.
Tyne were full of confidence and started brightly to enjoy most of the possession in the opening period, but it was Timperley who broke the deadlock when they converted a short corner.
Tyne continued to probe the home team’s defence and equalised when James Redpath converted from a short corner.
Within minutes of the second half starting, Tyne took a deserved lead with a great passing move down the left wing which was finished by Simon Miles after he expertly picked up a great cross from Murray Fotheringham.
Timperley had to defend in large numbers and they managed to grab an equaliser when they caught Tyne on the break.
This did not faze the away team who attacked at will and peppered the Timperley goal.
Tyne hit the post and twice had the ball in the net through Stoddart and Titmus, but neither stood.
Clearly it was not Tyne’s day and that was the case as Timperley grabbed a winner with one of very few times they had managed to enter the Tyne half.
Meanwhile the Ladies’ first team beat Liverpool 1-0.
Both teams are fighting to escape the lower end of the Investec League.
Whitley had the majority of the possession and in the first half won three corners won and had two open goal opportunities, but Liverpool defended strongly with great saves from the goalie.
Whitley scored the only goal of the game when converting a short corner by Rowan Rochester in the second half.
Liverpool chased an equaliser and had three short corners, but Whitley defended each one with class saves from Jo Spotswood.
The last ten minutes were tense with Whitley down to nine men at one point, but they managed to hold on for the win.
