A star-studded charity rugby match is being held tonight to round off rugby hero Micky Ward’s testimonial year.
Micky’s side for the Kingston Park match will be made up of past and present Newcastle Falcons team-mates including England international Jamie Noon.
Also in the 32-year-old’s team are Scottish internationals Ally Hogg and Euan Murray and former Falcons duo George Graham and Gary Armstrong.
They will be taking on the North East Barbarians, a team made up of players from the region Micky has come up against or turned out alongside, including some from Wallsend and North Shields .
Micky will share the proceeds of the game between Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres and the Wooden Spoon children’s charity.
Micky, who lives in Wallsend with his partner Kimberley and daughters Lola, three, and Sophie, one, said: “This is going to be a unique match and a great way to end an awesome testimonial year.
“It’s going to be entertaining to see players from local clubs taking on players they watch from the terraces.
“I can’t thank enough all the people who have turned up to and helped at the events we’ve held throughout the year, which began last August.
“People have dug deep and given their all, and for that I’m very grateful.
“Tonight’s match will be a great night out and an opportunity for people to see a game of rugby that will never be repeated.”
Tickets, priced £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available on the night or from the Falcons club shop and the Canterbury sportswear shop in Newcastle.
The game kicks off at 7.15pm.
