Mobile phone stolen in late night robbery

A woman had her mobile phone stolen during a street robbery in Whitley Bay.

The 35-year-old was walking in South Parade when she was approached by a man who grabbed her from behind and stole her black Apple iPhone.

She was uninjured during the incident but was left shaken.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a light grey cotton hat, a thick dark jacket and dark trouser bottoms.

Police are appealing for information into the theft, which happened between 11.20pm and 11.40pm on Monday, September 16.

They have also stepped up patrols to reassure local residents.

Whitley Bay Neighbourhood Inspector Jim Gray said: “Enquiries into the robbery are ongoing and extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area to reassure local residents.

“I’d urge anyone who was in the area on Monday night and who saw anything that could help us with our enquiries to get in touch as soon as possible.”
