Robinson Optometrists, in Front Street, Monkseaton, has been shortlisted for Independent Practice of the Year and Fashion Practice of the Year titles at the Optician Awards 2017 in April.

The awards – on April 1 at the Birmingham NEC Hilton Hotel – will see five nominees in each of the 16 categories.

Owned by husband and wife Nigel and Judith Robinson, the Monkseaton-based practice is now in its 26th year, winning Independent Practice of the Year twice before in 2010 and 2012.

Nigel said: “We are delighted to receive two nominations in this year’s awards. There are some wonderful practices listed among the finalists and win or lose, we will thoroughly enjoy the experience.

“There are four of us going to Birmingham for the awards gala dinner and it would have been lovely to take the whole team but sadly, someone has to keep the place going.”

Judith added: “There is a wonderful buzz around the practice.

“The whole Robinson team have been incredibly supportive in helping us achieve the nominations.

“Receiving the news we have reached the finals in the Fashion Practice category too came as a brilliant surprise as this is often the domain of the London-based practices.”

Following a re-brand two years ago, the company invested in affordable boutique ranges with judges looking for businesses which show innovation in bringing fashion eyewear to their customers.

Judith said: “Nigel and I have visited numerous trade shows including visiting London, Paris and Milan to source collections that are a little bit different, and this commitment and investment has hopefully impressed the judges.”
