Extra Metro trains will be running during December to help passengers make the most of the festive season.
The additional Metro services will be in operation until Tuesday, December 23, to ensure shoppers, families and party-goers can get around the network during the busy run-up to Christmas.
Sharon Kelly, managing director at Tyne and Wear Metro, said: “We understand how busy this time of year gets for many of our passengers.
“Metro provides a quick and convenient way of getting to where you want to go and eases the congestion on our roads and the worries of finding a car park. These extra services will help to make festive travel plans as stress-free as possible.”
Deputy director general of Nexus, Tobyn Hughes, said: “We provide the funding for extra trains in the run up to Christmas due to the higher levels of passenger demand.
“This makes life easier for passengers at this busy time of year.”
Metro will be running a reduced service on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, while normal services will run on December 27, 28, 29 and 30. There are no Metro services on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Tyne and Wear Metro is working with partners across the region, including Centre for Life, the Empire Theatre and Seven Stories to offer passengers a variety of seasonal discounts.
All you have to do is show your Metro ticket or pass at each of the venues to be entitled to any of these exciting offers. Visit nexus.org.uk/metro for a full list of terms and conditions.
