A motorcyclist involved in a collision at the Tyne Tunnel this week has died.
At around 1.45am on Tuesday, police were overtaken by a motorbike travelling north at the Jarrow end of the tunnel.
The motorcylist has since died from his injuries.
The incident has been referred to the IPCC as standard practice and police are awaiting a decision.
There were a small number of vehicles at the scene at the time of the incident and police would ask anyone who witnessed anything before the incident or on approach to the Tyne Tunnel to contact police.
