Music festival wristbands on sale at schools

Tickets for a music festival showcasing the talents of North Tyneside’s best young bands are now on sale.

‘The Event & Segedunum’ is an open-air gig for 11 to 19-year-olds held at Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend.

Following two days of auditions at the Y Studio inthe YMCA in North Shields, 25 bands were whittled down to 12, and they are now set to perform at the event on Saturday, July 6.

Only 1,000 wristbands have been released, and are now on sale at North Tyneside Council’s middle and high schools, priced at £3.

North Tyneside’s Young Mayor Isaac Sidney, along with members of the Youth Council, judged this year’s auditions.

He said: “The quality of the bands was extremely high and we had a really hard job short listing those to perform in July.”

Last year’s winners Lisbon, a four-piece band from Whitley Bay High School, performed at the Mouth of the Tyne Festival and will be returning to the Event to open it this year.

Young gig-goers will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite band on the day and details of the prize for the winner band will be announced soon.
