A new state-of-the-art energy campus has been officially opened.
AIS , in North Shields, has launched its £1m campus to deliver specialist safety and technical skills training required for the wind industry.
Julian Brown, chairman of RenewableUK, officially opened the building last week in front of more than 50 business leaders from around the UK and wind industry.
The purpose-built 6,000sq ft unit features a host of safety and technical areas to recreate field conditions found on wind turbines. A total of 12 new jobs have been created.
Mr Brown said: “The UK is a world-leader in offshore wind and I’m sure this cutting-edge facility will help further strengthen our excellent reputation in the global arena.
“It’s fantastic to see AIS investing such a considerable amount in the ongoing development of skills and competencies for the wind sector.”
The campus sits alongside AIS Training’s existing 150,000sq ft offshore training complex.
Paul Stonebanks, managing director at AIS, said: “Our new renewable energy facility rivals the very best in the world and puts the north east at the forefront of skills and competency training for the global wind energy sector.
“Our new custom-made facility enables us to accommodate increased demand and help plug industry skills shortages.”
