New chapter for Tynemouth business
A new chapter has started for a Tynemouth business going from strength to strength in its first year.
Tribe Children’s clothing and gift store has launched a unique friendships and memory book – You and Me.
It comes on the back of the company being named the latest North Tyneside Business of the Month, less than 12 months after opening its doors.
Owners Vicki Turner and Julie Marsh are hoping their book will place them firmly on the map, not only in the region, but online too.
The friends have self-published the book, which they are hoping will be popular with primary school children.
Written by the pair and illustrated by local teacher and artist Souzy Dunn, the book gives children the chance to create a personalised keepsake of their precious school days.
Vicki said: “We thought there was a gap in the market for a book that is part activity book and part keepsake, which allows children to write, draw or stick information about themselves and their friendships.
“The book helps capture those important friendships at a very special time in life and we hope will be something children can treasure for a long time.”
You and Me is designed to be shared amongst friends, who are asked to add photos and details. It has been produced on uncoated paper so it can be written on easily with pen, pencil or crayon.
The book is currently available in store and at yourtribe.co.uk
Julie said: “We’ve come a long way in the last year and have really valued our customer feedback.
“We remain committed to our original ethos of offering ethically sourced clothing and toys and in the last few months have extended our range to include great brands like Frugi and Lottie & Lysh.
“We have also launched online and our customer base is growing really well.
“The You and Me book is totally different so making it available on our website will continue to build our reputation for offering something special.”
Julie added: “North Tyneside Council was a huge source of advice when we were setting out and we are grateful it continues to support us and has named us Business of the Month; it could not be better timed, given the launch of our new book.”
Karen Westgate, project officer at North Tyneside Council, said: “It is great to see such an ethical business bloom in North Tyneside.
“Julie and Vicki have created a successful business, despite the challenges facing some of the retail sector.
“It just goes to show that there is still very much a place for local retail here in the borough, which we as a council will continue to support and encourage.”
North Tyneside Council’s Business Factory launched the Business of the Month campaign in 2017 to highlight the quality and variety of the businesses based in North Tyneside.
Any SME in North Tyneside can nominate themselves or somebody they know to be crowned Business of the Month. Simply provide a reason for selection and attend the monthly business coffee morning.
Nominations can be tweeted to The Business Factory using the #NTCBiz, posted on its Facebook page or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
